Join us at Rice Elementary for the 2025-2026 School Year! School of Choice Opens on Monday, November 4th!

School Choice for the 2025-26 school year

The first window of opportunity for families to apply for school choice for 2025-26 is Nov. 4 through Dec. 16, 2024. The application will become available at psdschools.org on Nov. 4.  First-round seat offers will be sent the week of January 5, 2025. Those offered a seat must respond to the offer within five weekdays, or the offer will be marked as declined and the application removed from the school’s waitlist. Weekdays are defined as Monday through Friday, including any holidays and school closure days during the week.

  • First-round applications are processed through a lottery, not on a first-come, first-served basis. A priority ranking system is used in this process.  Please review the School Choice policy and priority rankings.
  • Applicants can apply to multiple schools, but they must submit a separate application for each school and cannot rank them in order of preference.
  • Submitting a school choice application does not guarantee enrollment at a particular school. Acceptance is based on eligibility requirements and space availability at each school.
  • Students who currently attend a school through school choice do not need to re-apply to continue at that school in 2025-26.
  • Students on a school’s waitlist for the 2024-25 school year who have not yet received a seat offer must re-apply for consideration in the 2025-26 school year – an application for 2024-25 does not carry over to 2025-26.

A second-round school choice window is scheduled to open in mid-January 2025.

  • Unlike the first-round, applications are based on priority ranking and the date and time of when the application was submitted (not a lottery system).
  • Students are placed on the waitlist after any first-round applicants within the applicable priority ranking.

More information, including instructions on using the application system and school options, are available on the PSD School Choice Process web page.>>

Registration in PSD

Online registration for new students and students who previously attended PSD, left, and are returning for the 2025-26 school year will begin Monday, Nov. 4, 2024. To learn more about online registration and enrolling new or returning students, visit the PSD Online Registration web page.

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten families can register online beginning Nov. 4, 2024, or in-person at their PSD neighborhood elementary school on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024. Contact your student’s PSD neighborhood school for school hours and visit the School Locator to determine which school is your neighborhood school.

Parents/legal guardians must register students entering kindergarten at their designated PSD neighborhood school, even if a school choice application is pending. Please refer to District Policy JEB for age requirements for kindergarten in PSD.

  • Registering at the PSD designated neighborhood school does not impact a pending school choice application or potential seat offers from a choice school or program.
  • Parents/legal guardians of incoming kindergartners should register as soon as possible to help schools to determine their classroom sizes, staffing needs, and the number of school choice seats they can offer. However, online registration will still be available for families throughout the rest of the year.
  • To learn more about kindergarten registration, visit www.psdschools.org/kinder.
