SOAR & Lead Behavior Matrix

At Rice we believe the best learning environment is one that continually strives to promote a positive culture and climate.  Students are taught a building-wide system of behaviors called “SOAR & Lead”.  Our school wide behavior matrix intertwines the 8 Habits of an Effective Leader and SOAR. By teaching and supporting SOAR behavioral expectations, students understand what self-control, optimism, appreciation and respect look like throughout the school.  Expectations are reviewed with students during the year to maintain a safe, healthy and fun school environment.

Positive Behavior Recognition:

  • Blue Leader in Me Rice Raptor Ticket- Students earn a ticket when they display one of the 8 Habits of an Effective Leader. Once a month they may use their tickets to "buy" items off of our Rice Raptor store cart.
  • Golden/Yellow "Caught Leading" Ticket- When a student is "caught" going above & beyond to show leadership, they may earn a ticket. Each week multiple names are drawn and those students get to "Spin the Prize Wheel" to earn a prize. All tickets are then placed on our "Look Who was Caught Leading" bulletin board!
  • Leader in Me Habit Certificates- Classroom and Specials teachers nominate students going above and beyond the SOAR code and student leadership.  Four times a year nominated students are celebrated for their extraordinary behavior.
