Positive Behavioral and Intervention Support
S - Self Control
O - Optimism
A - Appreciation
R - Respect
At Rice we believe the best learning environment is one that continually strives to promote a positive culture and climate. Students are taught a building-wide system of behaviors called “SOAR”. By teaching and supporting SOAR behavioral expectations, students understand what self-control, optimism, appreciation and respect look like throughout the school. Expectations are reviewed with students during the year to maintain a safe, healthy and fun school environment.
Positive Behavior Recognition:
- SOAR Tokens- Students earn a token when they are “caught” displaying one of the SOAR behaviors.
- School-wide Rewards- SOAR tokens are then added into school-wide SOAR tubes. Once the tube fills, students earn a school-wide reward to enjoy as a result of all the great behaviors they display.
- SOARtificates- Classroom and Specials teachers nominate students going above and beyond the SOAR code. Four times a year nominated students are celebrated for their extraordinary behavior.
