Hi all!
My name is Mary Miller and I am thrilled to be teaching art this year at Rice Elementary! This will be my first official year in teaching and I look forward to learning as much from the students, if not more, than I hope to teach them! I grew up in east Texas and recently graduated from the University of Wyoming in May 2024 with a B.A. in Art Education after having graduated in 2021 with a B.A. in Art. In between degrees, I substituted and taught art lessons to homeschool students in small town Ft. Laramie, Wyoming and decided quickly that I needed to be sharing my passion for art full time. If you were to ask me my favorite medium, at the moment I would say I am dabbling in oil painting, but truthfully- I enjoy every medium I have been fortunate enough to work with and always love learning new techniques and practices. Aside from teaching and making art, you can find me outdoors hiking, running, mountain/road biking, skiing, or simply exploring Fort Collins.
I am excited for a great year connecting with students, parents, staff, and the community! With that I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes.
"Art has the role in education of helping children become more like themselves instead of more like everyone else." -Sydney Gurewitz Clemens
