Literacy

Literacy encompasses reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Poudre School District's adopted reading curriculum is Reach For Reading. Teachers use Reach For Reading as their primary resource for literacy instruction; however other types of instruction are utilized to offer a balanced literacy curriculum.

The adopted writing curriculum for Poudre School District is Units of Study by Lucy Calkins.  At Rice, teachers have created a writing continuum using this resource for teachers to follow. This ensures that students across the grades are receiving writing instruction that develop skills from one grade to the next without holes in a student’s knowledge. It also develops a common language across the grade levels that help students quickly learn and understand terminology associated with writing. Rice teachers use Step Up to Writing and Empowering Writers also.
